Sure, Datsun hasn’t tasted any serious success in the Indian market, but it did bring with a number of firsts to the entry-level hatchback space. First, of course, is the fact that the Go+, by itself, kickstarted a sub-compact MPV space amidst all the hatchbacks.
First launched in 2015, the Datsun Go+ is a compact 7-seater hatchback – or MPV, if I may – with loads of space and at a price of a small hatchback. While it may seem like a winning idea in regards to the Indian automotive market, the lack of essential features and Datsun’s not-so-good portfolio in India resulted in a very basic product.
But Datsun took care of all the shortcomings of the Go+ as it introduced its facelift version a while back. This time around, the Datsun was armed with all the essential features of the segment, and then some. Following the same, Datsun later introduced the CVT-derivative of the Go+, as it was only available with a manual transmission until. A few months back, Datsun again updated its Go and Go+, now with the added safety net of Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), which is a first for this segment.
Here’s a full model overview of the Datsun Go+.
Specifications
With the update, the Go+ now gets a sportier and sharper-looking front bumper. Then there’s the signature hexagonal grille in a mesh that is flanked by stylish, swept-back headlamps. On either side of the bumpers, there are LED DRLs visible as well. There are 14-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels too, which are a nice addition overall.
As for its dimensions, the Datsun measures 3,995mm in length, 1,636mm in width, and 1,507mm in height. The wheelbase is a respectable 2,450mm. Moreover, it has a fuel tank capacity of 35-litres. On top of that, the kerb weight for the base-spec trim is 865kg, and the ground clearance is a healthy 180mm. The boot-space can hold up to 347-litres of luggage, albeit with the third-rowseats lifted up.
Under the hood, the sole engine inside the GO Plus is the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that makes 68hp and 104Nm of torque that made its debut in 2015. It is paired to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission. This engine is best suited for city driving, as it does get a bit gruff under hard acceleration and there’s only so much of grunt from this engine to tackle highway overhauls.
Mileage
The Go Plus, on the mileage front, will not disappoint the average buyer. The 1.2-litre engine combined with the manual transmission is rated at 19.83km/l. As for the CVT derivative of the Go+, it is rated at 20.07km/l.
Features
As said earlier, Datsun has improved the overall equipment levels with the 2018 edition of the Go+. This means it is a better value-for-money package now than it has ever used to be. Features include follow-me-home headlamps, rear parking sensors, 7-inch infotainment touchscreen system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and USB. On the safety front, it gets ABS with EBD and brake assist and dual front airbags.
Colours
The Go+, as of early-2020, comes in sixshades, namely, Ruby Red, Opal White, Crystal Silver, Bronze Grey, Sunstone Brown, and Vivid Blue.
