The modular kitchen is one of the most popular kitchen designing ideas today. With kitchen spaces ranging from small to big and very large, the installation of the modular kitchen makes it easy to use up the complete kitchen space available effectively with the help of the following layouts:

  • L-shaped layout: Ideally suited for small homes, this layout makes effective and efficient use of minimum kitchen floor space to incorporate all that is required in a kitchen and dining space. It can best be described as small, discreet, compact, extremely versatile and virtually large enough to enable a dining table to be put in it. This type of modular kitchen makes use of two perpendicular walls for the installation of the required cabinets, gadgets, appliances and countertops.
  • Straight layout: Also known as the I shaped modular kitchen or the one-walled modular kitchen¸ this modular layout has its workflow on a single straight line. This modular kitchen shape is ideal for single room apartments like loft or studio apartments since the kitchen space is kept to a bare minimum yet optimum efficiency is maintained. Adding an island to a straight layout makes for a variant which looks more like the galley modular kitchen layout.
  • U shaped kitchen layout: This shape, also known as the horseshoe layout, is ideally suited for homes which have ample kitchen space. people with a love for cooking look forward to this type of modular kitchen as it offers:
    • A work triangle which is the most effective,
    • Storage space offered is maximum and
    • Counter space is also amply provided for.
  • Galley or parallel layout: This is another example of layout efficiency wherein it is possible to divide the work area into two separate areas:
    • The dry area which houses the appliances and gadgets and
    • The wet work area which consists of the sink and other plumbing requirements.

Storage space is available in both the areas since this layout helps maximize spaces both for the countertop and the storage cabinets. This layout works so efficiently since it consists of the different elements of a modular kitchen being placed on two parallel walls with a walkway present in between.

  • Island modular kitchen layout: This is one of the most aesthetics modular kitchen layouts favored the world over. Herein, an L shaped or I shaped layout forms the background with a solitary Island space available in front of it. This makes it possible for a modular kitchen layout to have separate cooking and storing areas and also imparts a contemporary feel to the kitchen.
  • Peninsula layout or a G shaped layout: It is similar to the Island layout but herein the island is not solitary or free-standing. It is connected to the workspace installed against the wall. It helps to provide all the facilities of an island layout but utilizes less space.

In order to understand the type of modular kitchen which best suites the kitchen space available, one needs to select that shape which enables the user to negotiate easily between areas which are most frequently used.
