Importance of Welding Fume Extraction

While welding takes place, it at all times goes hand in hand with UV rays, elevated temperatures, and exhaust vapors, which will be more or less dangerous depending on the scrupulous welding procedure. The welding gas produced often contains injurious impurities, though these do not present a difficulty if the accurate welding extraction system is used.

Destructive to the Respiratory System:

The impurities enter the airways when you breathe in, and pass through the bronchial tubes into the lungs. Due to their minuscule size, these tiny particles – well-known as particulates – are able to straightly enter the pulmonary alveoli through the cell wall. It is necessary that this is prohibited. These injurious airborne impurities which occur in intense form mainly in plant, pot, machine, and steel structure, in the automotive industry and its part suppliers, as well as in rail vehicle industry and shipbuilding – can be removed at source using a welding torch in combination with welding fume extractor. Welding Ventilation for inside Operations: 

Restricted exhaust systems providing a least amount of air speed of 100 lineal feet per minute in the welding zone shall be used apart from as otherwise specified the following:

Wherever local exhaust welding fume ventilation is not possible, automatic dilution ventilation adequate to prevent exposures to concentrations of airborne impurities from more than those specified.

Wherever place of work monitoring records clearly show that revelation levels specified in Section 5155 are not exceeded, neither automatic ventilation nor respiratory shielding equipment is required.

When the environment of the work is such that general exhaust ventilation is not an efficient means for preventing potentially dangerous exposure levels, as specified by Section 5155, supplied-air respirators shall be shabby.

General exhaust ventilation shall be used when potentially risky materials are employed as support metals, fluxes, coatings or filler metals. These include, but are not limited to, the materials like, Beryllium, Cadmium, Chromium, Fluorides, Lead, and Mercury etc. 

The exhaust arrangement shall be vented in a manner such that employees and others are not exposed to dangerous concentrations of poisonous substances. Poisonous Substances Used in the Open Air. Whereas lethal substances mentioned above are used as respiratory shielding equipment.
