The packing tape is probably one of the tapes that are more accustomed to seeing. However, there is a great variety of seals, with different uses. The seal is the adhesive tape used at the end of the line to close boxes. It allows securing loads, preventing the boxes from opening and leaving the merchandise uncovered.

There is currently an infinite number of adhesive packaging solutions on the market, although there are two types that are the most common: polypropylene tapes and PVC tapes.

What Are PVC Packaging Tapes?

These seals are supported by PVC and natural rubber adhesive, which makes them more elastic, and therefore more resistant, and they also have great adhesion.

For these reasons, they have a greater resistance to breakage than other seals, which allows them to withstand heavy loads, being ideal for closing any box. It can be transparent, or in brown or white. In addition, it is quieter when unwinding.

What About PP Packaging Tapes?

The PP tapes are composed of polypropylene support, and when the adhesive can find precinct PP with three different types of adhesive: rubber, acrylic and hotmelt.

Although they also have great adhesion, polypropylene is a less flexible material than PVC, so its resistance to breakage is somewhat lower, which is why these packaging tapes are mainly used for medium or small weight boxes.

What Should I Take Into Account When Choosing A Packing Tape?

When selecting a packaging opp tape (เทป opp, which is the term in Thai), several factors must be taken into account, such as:

  • The greater the transport time of the merchandise, the greater the resistance of the seal will have to be.
  • The temperature and humidity; not all seals withstand extreme temperatures.
  • Weight of the load. When it comes to very heavy loads, it is more appropriate to use PVC seal.
