The most common power socket outlet [travel adapter ราคา, which is the term in Thai] are 15-amp receptacles. These outlets are designed to accept Standard power plug [ปลั๊กไฟ 3 ตา, which is the term in Thai] for most small appliances like lamps, chargers etc.

Types of Standard Power Plug used industrially:

Approximately 15 different standard systems of plugs are being used around the world, each of which has assigned a letter from A till O, two major and most common types of the plugs are: the undergrounded type A and the grounded type B.

Type A i.e. undergrounded ones have two flat parallel prongs. These plates are 1.5 mm thick, 15.9-18.3 mm long, and each blade are 12.7 mm apart. These plugs are generally polarized and can only be inserted one way in the socket, because of the uneven width of both blades. The neutral blade is 7.9 mm wide and the hot blade is 6.3 mm wide. These plug can work with 15A of energy.

Some of these blades have holes at the tip so that outlet can hold the plug more firmly, improving the connection between plug and outlet and so that plug won’t slip out of the socket because of the weight of metal blades or the cord.

Special outlets which allows you to lock the cord:

There are some special outlets which allow you to lock the cord into the socket by padlock or using a plastic tie.

Type B i.e. grounded ones have three blades in which two of them are flat and parallel, which are 1.5mm thick, 15.9-18.3 mm long, 6.3 mm in width, and are 12.7 mm apart from each other. The third blade in U-shape has the diameter of 4.8 mm and is 3.2 mm longer than the two flat blades, so the object is grounded before power connection. The plugs can work with 15A of energy.

Type A and B plugs are not insulated like the other types C, G, I, L or N, if we pull A or B plugs half way out of the socket, its prongs are still connected to the socket which could be dangerous.
