Tour Pick up
We were taken to our hotel in the afternoon by a four-wheeled vehicle that could hold up to 7 people. In addition to my friend and me in the 4×4, the group consisted of 3 people. When we arrived in the desert, the tour vehicle was tamed with other tour vehicles. There were about 10 AWDs in total.
Sand Dunes
Our first experience was in a desert, and I was completely captivated. I was mesmerized by the dunes of sand. Every time the sand melted into my feet and splattered into my fingers like flour through a filter, I was also amazed by the fine granules.
Desert sand is a major change from Caribbean and Mexico sands that I was aware of until now. If you look at the ground, you’ll sand art everywhere you look. The fine sand particles are molded to the winds’ desire, changing shape and eventually falling into strange lines. My first time stepping on dunes of sand was one I will always keep in mind!
Photo-Ops
In the Arabian desert, the dunes are comparatively low globally (it’s not even close to the Namibian Dune 45). However, if you choose the right angles, you’ll get the best photographs.
There were two distinct photos of the dune on this trip. If you’re looking for any chance to capture a moment like I do and you’ll enjoy the late afternoon sun that casts a warm glow against a blue and clear sky.
The best Dune Bashing Experience
If you are prone to motion sickness, take some motion sickness pills to help you enjoy this tour! Dune bashing is a thrilling driving experience across the dunes in your 4×4 while your driver swerves across each valley and hill.
It was nearly done in sync with the other 4x4s on tour. It was enjoyable for the first five minutes, but after that, I was waiting to see the driver quit showing the skills he has mastered in driving.
Bedouin Camp
We were transferred to the Bedouin camp, where we stayed for the night. The tour was extremely touristy, filled with cliche Arabian activities like tattoos. However, it was good fun.
Sand boards are also an option, as well as ride camels. A camel ride was quite a shock. They are so high that when their knees buckle suddenly, you fall to a 450-degree angle without warning.
Buffet Dinner and Show at Bedouin Camp
The camp’s self-serve dinner buffet included hummus olives, lamb grilled and chicken lent curry, Arabic dates, and coffee for dessert. The food quality wasn’t the best; however, after building an appetite, the food was good enough!
The seating was first come, first serve, with cushions on the ground under the stars or in a tent. The dinner entertainment featured a traditional tanoura dancing show and belly dancer.
